Heather Huffman, PhD, EdM, MSW, SWC

Clinical Social Worker Candidate

Dr. Huffman holds a doctorate in Psychological and Medical Anthropology from UCLA, a Master’s in Human Development and Psychology from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Master’s in Social Work from UCCS.

Heather’s research in anthropology includes the education and training of clinical social work students, emotion work in families, and the health benefits of expressive writing. Heather has evaluated collaboration among county systems and agencies that serve children, youth, and families; outcomes among young adults who were previously in the foster care system; and expressive writing workshops for persons recovering from trauma.

Heather’s clinical approach is person-centered, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed.  She works with anxiety, depression, and trauma in adults, couples, and families. Depending on clients’ goals and preferences, she utilizes dialectical-behavioral therapy (individual and group therapy), narrative therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, psychodynamic therapy, family systems therapy, attachment theory, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness meditation. Heather believes in every client’s innate capacity for healing, growth and holistic wellness.

Dr. Huffman is also the Intake Coordinator at Cottonwood Creek Wellness Center. She has a passion for making individuals feel welcome and comfortable while gathering background information to connect them with the best fit at Cottonwood.

In her free time, Heather enjoys her family, friends, travel, yoga, and hiking.
