Christina McKenna, LPCC
Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate
Christina is a Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate in the State of Colorado. She completed her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Colorado Christian University and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Psychology. She also holds a Certificate in Biblical Studies.
Christina has experience working with diverse clientele from working with children to seniors in different stages of life, as well as various backgrounds. She is an EMDR trained therapist who provides trauma-informed care which includes working with grief and attachment trauma, anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Her experience includes working with survivors of sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse, and individuals who have experienced sudden loss. Christina takes a compassionate and collaborative therapeutic approach, focusing on restoring emotional and psychological wholeness through multiple therapeutic interventions. She incorporates polyvagal techniques, grounding exercises, cognitive reframing, mindfulness, DBT, CBT, and EMDR to help clients overcome challenges and reach their goals. Christina’s passion is to walk alongside clients with unconditional positive regard and create space to gain new insights, promote post traumatic growth, and discover resiliency. Through psychoeducation, learning new and effective skills, setting boundaries, and increased awareness clients can see challenges as opportunities for growth, recognize strengths, and live joyfully.
In Christina’s free time she enjoys going to the zoo, reading good books, and watching classic movies. She finds delight in cooking and baking, visiting local coffee shops, and spending time with her spouse and four rescue pets. Christina is proud to call the mountains home while she loves spending time hiking, visiting small mountain towns, and enjoying time with her family and friends.
